Instant Reaction to Week 1 Fantasy Madness

T: Welcome to fantasy island. This is going to be the Sunday night reaction. We're going to react to all of today's Sunday's games. I got King with me today. He's going crazy guys. A lot of conversations around what happened today in week one King.

went today in week one of the:

King: Well, hey, thanks, T. Thanks for bringing me in. Appreciate it. Yeah, definitely, uh, it's a different week one, T, and I think what a lot of people have been used to is that these guys are usually ready to hit the floor running in week one, but I think what we realized today was just because of the way that the new NFL is, there's no hitting, there's definitely not an urgency to even have your guys play if they're a little nicked up, and they don't definitely play in the preseason games, even like even in scrimmages, hardly.

So it shows. And, you know, it just, I don't know, I think all across the board, just the overall quality of the game was down today in week one.

T: Yeah, I would tend to agree with that. I think, you know, we were talking about this right before we started recording and you made a really interesting comment that it just seemed like some of the teams weren't, uh, prepared to play. They just didn't show up and they weren't ready. All right. So with that said king let's go into qb's for a week. One.

King: Well, I mean, again, like T, we're just gonna, you know, throw a little quick hitter out there. We're not fucking up the show or anything. We got another big show coming at you this week, guys. Remember, if you're gonna be listening to us, make sure and hit that subscribe button, right? But I think the quarterbacks that stood out to me today were probably guys who probably aren't even started too much in Fantasy right now.

You know, one of them was Tua. He threw for over 440 yards with three touchdowns. And another guy I want to pub out who's probably not even rostered on 50 percent of the teams out there. It's Mack Jones. Mack Jones threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns today. They got a new offensive coordinator, he's got a couple weapons.

You know, it just seemed like the same old type of offense, but they seem to be moving the ball. And they got down early and they just kept slugging back and slugging back and they were in the game at the end. They had a chance to win. So, I think those two guys were my standout quarterbacks today. I think, you know, there was a lot of disappointment at that position as well, T.

T: Yeah, there's a lot of guys that shit the bed. You're right about that. And uh, real quick, I'll just throw out a quick standout that I recognized today was the, uh, Anthony Richardson. You know, shout out to Bombo. He's been hyping this guy and he's been on him pretty early and, you know, he didn't disappoint for his first game of the season as a rookie, you know, had a pretty big game.

King: Yeah, I don't know what his points translated to, but I watched the entire game and he's lost. You know what I mean? They have to get more simplified for him a little bit. The touchdown that he threw was a little hitch pass where Pittman ran 45 yards. So, he really struggled a little bit in his debut, but, you know, I think out of the rookie class, I think Bryce Young looked the best.

And CJ Stroud really looked the worst. Yeah, no, definitely it's a, it's a tough haul for these guys, especially in the first week of real football.

T: Absolutely. All right. Well, with that said, what do you think about, uh, the running back situation?

King: I think there was numerous guys that actually did well and guys who had some big spurts and you're wondering why didn't they get more opportunities. And I'm going to throw one out as Tyler Alger. He had two runs back to back, basically. They got him over 40 yards and they just stopped giving him the ball.

And I understand what they're trying to do because they have Bijan. But Bijon is who he is. They force fed him even with his 10 touches, which is five rushes, five catches, they're blowing him because of a move he made on the goal line. Guess what, man? 90 percent of the running backs in the league make that move.

So again, I'm not too thrilled about that. But I think the only standout guy to me really today was was McCaffrey. CMC just tore it up today. But again, I don't know if that was So much him and the Niners and the team was that good. I mean, there were other guys that shined and we'll talk about them this week.

But my standout guy is definitely McCaffrey. His line was 22 carries 152 yards and a touchdown. Had three catches for 17 yards as well, but they just dominated the game and they did what they were supposed to do at the end. They ran the ball, ran the clock out when they had the big lead and they did well.

T: Absolutely, you're right. And I tend to agree with you about the whole Bijon thing. I know that you're going to get a lot of the hype train come tomorrow with all the pundits and all the talking heads. But. Yeah, I'm with you on that one. The one guy I'm going to call out real quick is Rochon Johnson being a bear Homer and all.

But, uh, I mean, the guy was number eight in running back fantasy this week. He had, uh, five rushing attempts for 20 yards, you know, which isn't, you know, outstanding, but he had a touchdown and then he caught the ball for six catches for 35 yards. And that was enough to put them over Nick Chubb who had a.

Outstanding fantasy day, but from a points perspective, he was

King: Well, I think it's almost not what you were saying. It's not an outstanding fantasy. They had an outstanding reality day. Nick Chubb did. But it didn't translate into a lot of points fantasy wise and that sort of goes to show you T where that position was today. If Roshan Johnson is the number eight running back, it just shows you the points weren't at the running back position. So,

T: So that leaves us with wide receivers. So, you know, I'm really interested to hear what you have to say about this. Cause you and I had a lot to talk about today when we were talking back and forth about the receivers

King: well, I think the biggest thing is the guy that I talked about, you know, in our last show, I sort of pub does, you know, going to be one of my MVPs of the year was the cheetah. And I think he's, you know, he talks the talk, but he definitely walks to walk when he has to. Today he just blew up and the chargers are the same old chargers, just giving up big chunks.

I mean, he started out a little bit slow, but by the third quarter, I had like 130 yards receiving. Finished with over 200. I mean, he just tore it up. His line was 11 catches, 215 and two touchdowns. So I think the reality is that as long as Tua can stay upright, this guy definitely has a legitimate shot at his 2, 000 yards.

And he looked apart again today. He hasn't slowed down. They haven't stopped. They haven't lost any connection. Another guy I want to talk about, obviously, you know, the Justin Jefferson got his line, but here he goes again. You know, he had nine catches for a buck, 50 no TDs and they got the loss. So, it's just hard on Justin Jefferson over there, but a couple guys I want to talk about are guys we spoke about on the show, Calvin Ridley, eight catches, 101, and a touchdown in his debut back with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Welcome back, Calvin Ridley, to a legitimate number one receiver ranking in fantasy football. There was a lot of people out there that were questioning him because hasn't played in two years, but if you saw him and what he was doing in training camp and even the preseason games.

His game speed is elite, and that's what you can't teach. You know, he seemed to be right on point again. Uh, the reality is, though, he had most of that line before the half. I think he only had one catch after half. They started bracket coveraging him, so they're gonna have to do a better job figuring out some things for him, but 8 101 1.

Great day back, Mr. Ridley. And a little bit of a shout out to, uh, Puka Nakua, 10 catches, 119 yards a day. Did a great job. You know what I mean? Another guy that we fucking told you guys about once Cooper cup went down, he's the guy over there. So again, just, you know, hats off to you guys, man. It was, it was a pretty decent day for wide receivers.

Although I will say some big names did sort of stink it up, but you know, Hey, it is what it is.

T: I got a big, uh, shout out for Puka as well. Uh, you know, he ranked eight right now in the, uh, this week's fantasy rankings for wide receivers and for a rookie with that type. of offense right now. That's not bad. But the one guy that kind of stood out to me as a guy that I didn't expect was even going to be in the top, probably 15 was Jacoby Myers.

That guy landed in the number three spot for receivers for this week. He had a monster game 10 catches for 81 yards, but two touchdowns. I mean, that's a hell of a game right there for a guy who isn't even the number one receiver on his

not saying he's going to do that all season, but hey,

King: will and understand why because he's going to benefit from Devante Adams getting double and triple teamed and that's really what it is. These teams are going to take these guys, these weapons out of there and the other guys have to perform and he did today. He had a great, great game, you know, and the Raiders they spoiled Sean Payton, you know, starting off with his onside kick and shit.

Like he did, you know, in the super bowl, whatever, dude,

T: all right, King. So do you have, something just, uh, overall your wrap up for week one?

King: Yeah, definitely. There was a couple guys that just wanted to throw the stinker out too, man. And it was just like, really guys? One of you motherfuckers just got paid the biggest bag in league history. And the other one's supposed to be the number one or number two receiver? Really? Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow?

Really guys? Joe Burrow threw for 82 motherfucking yards, dude. I know Cleveland's defense is good. They ain't that good. Jamar Chase 5 hole catches for 39 hole yards. Come on guys. Come on, man. You got to do better than that. I think in general, too, there were teams that we talked about in the beginning of the show that just weren't ready.

And I think one of the biggest disappointments for me was just because they seemed inept and didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. It's the Chicago Bears. There's a lot of pub on those guys, and we'll get into that this week with Fantasy. And these guys are not really doing what they need to do.

By letting Justin Fields or making him stay in the pocket. It's like, he's almost forced to stay in the pocket, dude. And it's just, it's a shame. It's a shame that they basically are handcuffing him and doing that. But the giants weren't ready. The Seahawks to lose at home, like they did to the Rams when the Rams just don't have anybody and they got manhandled on the, on the front line.

And Pittsburgh just shit the bed again. Time for a new coach, Tomlin. That's what I'm calling out. Actually, I'm calling out two new coaches, T. Pittsburgh needs a new coach. Chicago Bears need a new coach. Because they're just, they're missing it. That's my stink tank.

T: Wow, after one game, you're already calling for their

King: Well, I, actually, I, I really haven't been either way on Tomlin, but I Eberflues hire. I just don't think that guy plus with Hickey Van Dickey, their offensive coordinator, whatever his name is, you know what I mean? I just don't dig any of those cats. I'm sorry. And I'm hoping they're just a bridge, you know, and we're going to get somebody who makes sense or something here soon, but I just, I hope they don't make just an escape code here, but that's my take on week one G.

Thanks for bringing me in, bro.

T: Hey, I had to, you were going crazy, blowing up my phone and we just had to do this, so hopefully everybody enjoyed this and got something out of it. And, uh, hopefully they felt the same way as you and I did King and we'll see everybody on the next one for King. This is T we're out.
