Thursday Night's Fantasy Preview
to the very first game of the:King: You know what we're gonna do is we're gonna go ahead and split it up. I'm gonna talk about the chiefs, Baba's gonna talk about the lions. We're gonna break down each team fantasy and sort of give you the guys, I mean, obviously who we think we'd play in this game. You know, obviously I just wanna share my excitement with everybody that football is back.
This is the first game of the season on Thursday night. Which usually has a Super Bowl winner and some kind of Final Four, uh, team in there. That's not the case this year, but I'm looking for an exciting game. Kansas City's defense is a little suspect. They haven't settled up with Chris Jones yet.
So, you know what, I can see this being a shootout and I'm good with the shootout on the first game of the season. So I'm gonna talk about Kansas City and the players they got, obviously it starts with Patna Holmes. Pat Mahomes is the quarterback in fantasy. This guy proved it again last year with the absence of Tyreek Hill and the departure of Tyreek Hill, that he is still the man in fantasy.
He's the man in reality too. He is the best quarterback in the N F L. Obviously he's a must start every week. I think he's matchup proof. I don't think there's any team you don't wanna start him with. As you are gonna sit him down and be, try to be smart one week and he is gonna go off. Obviously he's a start in any game, but Pat Mahomes is where it starts for Kansas City.
Then you look at their backfield, you know we're gonna start there. Isaiah Pacheco decent matchup against Detroit, although they do have a better defensive line, they do have a better second layer now. They drafted a really high end middle linebacker, which I think is gonna help their run game. Their defense had so many holes last year, they're gonna take steps and they'll take a step this year, but they're not gonna be on the bottom of the barrel, but they're not gonna be the best team defensively as well. So I think that Isaiah Pacheco could have a game and depending on who you got in your running back stable, he might be an option to play receiver wise. I mean, it's out there. You got Sky more. You got Valdez scan. You got Caius, Tony. Not sure who's really gonna be playing. You know, the first game, Caius, Tony's not gonna be hurt.
Those are the three main guys. There's gonna be other flash guys because Pat Mahomes throws a six or seven guys a game, but I don't know if the other guys are fantasy relevant and they're gonna carry you enough to draft them and have 'em on your team. The one guy that again, is another matchup proof guy and basically has to be started every week, is the man, Travis Kelsey. Travis Kelsey and Pat Mahomes are matchup proof. I think in this game. They're both gonna go off, I think that first game of the year. Andy Reed has basically had six months to fucking plan for this game, and they're gonna have a huge game. I like me some Mahomes. I like me some Kelsey. And I probably wouldn't start anybody else.
I'd probably go somewhere else for my running back. But I understand if you play Pacheco, I really wouldn't go McKinnon here. I got McKinnon on a couple teams and he's set up for, to fill in for bi weeks, but man, I tell you what, Bombo, I'm just happy Fantasy's back brother and I'm ready to start. Anybody.
I don't care if I lose the first week. I just want to put a lineup together, but that's what I got for Kansas City Bombo, what are you liking on the Detroit
Bombo: Spoken like a true hype king, true fantasy hype on the Detroit side of the ball. You're gonna hear it from this show a lot. There's a lot of people that looked at the schedule and were like, Detroit versus Kansas City to open up the season.
What the fuck? Right? Hey, the N F L knows what they're doing. They know that Detroit can put up the points. Detroit has explosive playmakers and they're no slouch. Most of all, both of these teams kind of have the same defense where they do just enough to keep you in a shootout. And they, both of these defenses could end the game with a turnover or some opportune, uh, situation happening.
But for the most part, what the re N F L is trying to do is replicate that golf versus Mahomes Thursday night game. In LA with the color rush uniforms scoring up into the hun, the low hundreds. It was nuts. They wanna see that. Again. That would do wonders for the league in generating buzz and in order that for that to happen, Detroit's gotta do their part.
And here's who's gonna do that for Detroit. We're gonna start off with Aman Ross. Saint Brown, like King was saying. Must start guys. You have on the other side with Kelsey and Mahomes, Aman Ross. St. Brown is the set it and forget it. Wide receiver. It's time to start talking about him that way. He isn't the Megatron or Julio Jones, you know, over six two, over two 10.
He is shifty. He gets open, he runs crisp routes, he has hands and he knows the playbook and where he needs to be. He's a smart player. He's a athletic. Cooper Cup type receiver where bigger receivers that can high point the ball definitely will always have their place in fantasy football. These are the type of receivers that you want though these.
Aman Ross St. Browns, these Devonte Smiths, these guys are game breakers. They could take a slant route, 80 yards to the house. They could also take the top off of a defense. I like Aman Ross, St. Brown. Uh, there's question marks on if Snead's gonna play for Kansas City.
I think they're gonna try to zone up on Detroit just to get, make golf a more pure passer, but I think he's up for it. So it brings us to golf. So last year golf was around the 250 yards per game, two touchdowns per game in weeks one through 10, towards the back half of the year after the hawkinson trade and after they were getting their rhythm.
Uh, it jumped up to almost 300 yards per game and another half touchdown. So we'll say two 90 and two and a half touchdowns. Golf is no slouch. Golf has been to a Super Bowl. He's been the butt of a lot of jokes. Yeah, we get it. And it didn't look good when they got rid of him. The Rams brought in Stafford and immediately won a Super Bowl.
But you know what? The lions could have turned away from golf plenty of times. And there's deciding to keep him. Golf has the trust of that organization. He has the trust of the coach. And you and what I like about this Detroit team King is this is the team that that coach wants on the field. He plays with passion.
When he was first hired, everyone was making fun of him because you know, he's a big rah rah guy, meathead, former N F L player, but he gets the players to play and he's gonna get the most outta that quarterback at the running back position. It may be a little bit early, but on this show we're Jamir Gibbs guys, and I think Jamir Gibbs.
Is Deandre Swift, except the organization wants him there. It seemed like last year they were doing everything they can to not highlight Deandre Swift, which was odd for us. It was like, oh, it's his shoulder, or, oh, it's this injury, that injury. He was coming out in the media saying that he was fine.
Detroit was saying they're gonna ease him in. There was really no reason to ease him in. What they were doing was easing him out of town and now they got their guy in the backfield and it's Jamir Gibbs. He's gonna be paired up with David Montgomery, who is a good pass catching back himself, , little bit thicker, good goal line option.
But I think when it comes down to it, even if it's a 50 50 split, Jamir gives, gets the more fantasy friendly touches and he has the more explosive speed to take a small pass or something in the flats all the way to the house. Jamir Gibbs. Jared, Goff, Aman Ross, St. Brown. These guys are starters. You're gonna start them if you drafted them, and they're One sleeper that I have in this game that we've talked about on this show before is Sam Laporta.
He's the rookie tight end for Detroit. There's nobody on the other side of Ahman Ross Saint Brown, that's really worth anything in fantasy.
Marvin Jones is back for a second stint with Detroit. They got Josh Reynolds there, but these are more people to. Have a full receiver room. These aren't guys that are gonna be lighting it up. You may have an occasional Marvin Jones touchdown game, but the only real pass catcher that Detroit has is the rookie Sam Laporta and Goff throws to his tight ends.
Goff likes that safety blanket. And from what we're seeing in preseason and early in camp was La Porta is the red zone target, and he has the trust of golf. And when it comes down to it, That Kansas City defense has holes when they try to play that zone. And if they can get laporta behind those linebackers who are probably gonna be coming after golf because he's really not mobile like that.
So they're probably gonna be blitzing bolts in maybe dropping a couple of guys back into the flats because they have Gibbs and they have Montgomery. It's gonna leave the middle of the field wide open and the middle of the field could be eaten up by Sam Laporta. And I'm betting on that. I got some stock in Sam Laporta on some of my teams just.
You know, take a gamble on the rookie tight end because Detroit took a gamble on the rookie tight end. I think he's gonna be featured in that offense. I expect a shootout king. I think that the N F L got it right on this one. And there's a lot of start fantasy guys.
me that's gonna start off the:And guys, both of you guys made some excellent points. Uh, king. I love the fact that you're over there calling out the, you know, Pacheco because Bombo and I were big on Pacheco last season and nobody was on him. And it's nice to see everybody now starting, I mean, he's rostered on like 99.6 of everybody's roster right now.
It's crazy. So good stuff. And that'll go ahead and end this for, so for Bombo and King, we are out.
