2023 Fantasy Rookie Class
ussing all the rookies in the:And we're gonna go ahead and lead it off with King. Go ahead and start us off.
King: Yeah, man. No, I love talking about rookies, guys, just so you know, I feel like rookies are the key to your draft. I think if you hit on a couple big rookies, That people don't know about, haven't heard their names, you get ahead of it. Not only do you get the benefit this year, but if it's a keeper league, you jump on a guy who's potentially gonna be a, a monster.
So, you know, like we talked about in the earlier segments, like Bombo likes to do, I like to be earlier than late. So, man, I had a deep list. MBO told me to shut the hell up and only pick three of 'em. So we're gonna start talking about those guys now, the first guy I wanna talk about is somebody I think is gonna have a big year immediately right out of the gate.
I think he's gonna be part of the offense. New offensive coordinator in LA for the Chargers and their first round pick, Quentin Johnson. Six foot four, 210 pound beast. Running like a deer down the sideline and probably gonna stay healthy. It looks like they're gonna try to feed him the ball a little bit and make a conservative effort about that.
So I just really like me some Quentin Johnson. I like what they're doing there. I like the, the fact that they changed their offensive coordinator. I think it's gonna be better for Herbert, but the reality is the other two receivers don't stay on the field. If this kid can produce at a decent level his rookie year, he's gonna be a top 15 wide receiver when he is done.
Just if he can stay on the field for those 16 or 17 games, whatever it is. But my first rookie, call out Quentin Johnson wide receiver chargers.
Bombo: Yeah, king, I like the Quentin Johnson pick. There's a receiver that I was looking at out of these rookies that I think is gonna go into a really favorable situation just because of, we've seen this with this organization before, and that's Jackson Smith Najiba in Seattle. So Tyler Lockett hasn't gone anywhere.
He's still there, but. Seattle has done a really good job of replacing that receiver with the next receiver while that receiver's still there. Tyler Lockett became Tyler Lockett. While Doug Baldwin was still there. I think Jackson Smith Najiba is gonna become the next I. Premier slot, good route runner for that organization while learning under Tyler Lockett.
Plus Gino's really good with the ball. He gets it out on time. They don't really turn it over a lot. D came, Metcalf sometimes has to deal with some of these injuries and just effort and Jackson Spin Jeba comes with that pedigree.
He was a beast in college. He's getting a lot of buzz in camp. but it just doesn't stop with receivers. I'm also looking at Bijan Robinson. He's getting drafted real high. I know that in a previous segment we didn't say you should really draft him real high.
That don't mean don't draft him. He's gonna probably get force fed. He's. Growing with that offense in Atlanta, the big question mark might be Desmond Ritter at the quarterback, but the key to getting a young quarterback some quality completions is dump offs and they're using Bijan Robinson as that receiving back that dual threat.
So I think they're gonna make a real concentrated effort to get him the ball and there's not really much else going on with that offense. So B John Robinson is a rookie running back that needs to be rostered.
I just don't know if you're really giving them that top three. Running back pedigree.
King: Yeah, and I, I think that's the hesitation. With me Bombo on Bijan Robinson. I think it's sort of like he's, he's just getting drafted too high without doing anything yet, and I think he should be right at the spot where I'm gonna talk about the rookie that I take. Who got drafted? A few spots behind him.
It's Jamir Gibbs, same kind of running back, very versatile, smallish kind of guy. Great moves in the open field, can take you to the house on any play. But Detroit hit a home run when they got him. They knew exactly what they were gonna do to replace Deandre Swift. They got a free agent in Montgomery, but their home run hitter is Jamir Gibbs.
Jamir Gibbs is a monster. He came out of Alabama and to come out of Alabama as the number one, anything is huge. So I think they have big plans for Jamir Gibbs and at his draft position. I think the value is much better than a Bijan Robinson, and I think they're gonna be very similar. The other thing you gotta think about is Jamir Gibbs is on a better team. So I think that's gonna sort of, be a positive for him in the long run. Maybe a negative in the beginning because they'll ease him into it. But I like me some Jamir Gibbs there, you know. Now we talked about receivers, we talked about running backs. Think we gotta talk about some rookie quarterbacks here.
Bumbo, you know, but the guy that I picked, and we had a few names in there, and we were talking about all the rooks, but I'm gonna throw a guy who's. Basically gonna be a fantasy rookie. That's Jordan Love. He hasn't played, man. So technically he's a rookie to me. So he's not getting any pub at all. I think he's a great pick.
I think that he's gonna hit the ground running. He's in command of that offense already. He gets it. He's been there for a couple years, but he hasn't touched the damn field 'cause of a Aron. So that douches out now. It's his show. He is got some weapons on the outside, some legitimate weapons that he could gel with and grow with Romeo Dobbs and Christian Watson. And you don't have these old fucking dirts over there that are fucking stinking enough. Randall Cobb and fucking Mercedes Lewis and all this other shit fucking guys that Aaron just trying to get their fucking pension set for them. You know what I mean? Fuck that. Move on. And hopefully Green Bay takes like three steps back.
And Chicago takes a big step in that division, but I like need some Jordan Love as my rookie qb what's at U bombo.
Bombo: On the island, you're gonna hear a lot of talk about some of these sleepers, some of these guys that were early on and one of the rookies I'm early on is Anthony Richardson. Kid outta Florida going to the Colts. Colts decided they're gonna start all over. They're gonna get their franchise quarterback.
It was funny with Anthony Richardson, it was either he might be the first quarterback taken on the board, or he might fall to the fourth or fifth round. Like nobody really knew what was going on. He had limited catalog in college as far as what you, what you saw, but he has the raw ability, and I don't, I look at him more of, I look at him more as a potential just in fields than a potential Malik Willis, just because you can get it done with his legs.
You'll always hear from me. Dual threat quarterbacks are what you need to be looking for. Plus they're playing with house money. They're not expected to make the playoffs. They're gonna let him go out there and do what he does. I got Anthony Richardson really lighting it up and really taking advantage of that.
A f C South defense that we've seen. The Colts, no matter who's the signal caller, are able to carve up at any time. I think once he gets acclimated into that offense and he starts. Feeling himself and he starts really grasping what it's like to be a franchise quarterback. I expect big things out of Anthony Richardson.
Maybe not right away, but by the end of the year, he will be on a roster and he will make a difference.
Sweet T: All great picks there, guys. All great picks. Although I will say that the Anthony Richardson, I'm the least. Likely to want any part of Anthony Richardson? Just to, because I think he has a lot of work. He's a more of a project kind of guy to me. But hey, mbo, you always throw your coconuts out there and I love you for that.
King, I really love your Quentin Johnson. I mean, just seeing him in the first preseason game, this kid is going to be a stud for them. I love what they're gonna be doing with him. I mean, just the fact that they got him 21 overall was, you know, really great and I think he's really gonna be making the difference 'cause nobody there can stay healthy as far as their wide receivers.
So that's a great call over there. All right guys, that wraps up the rookies and man, there was some good picks in there and I like all of 'em except for Anthony Richardson. Way to go. Babo, I.
