Buried Treasure (our Deep sleepers)

as your deep sleepers for the:

Guys, let's get at this King. I'm gonna go ahead and throw it at you first. Let us know who your buried treasure is for the 2023 season.

King: Well, what's going on guys? Yeah. Welcome to everybody again, to another edition of a fantasy island. Yeah, I mean the term T you know, deep Sleeper. Sleeper. You know, I think guys, we have to sort of put a, some sort of definition on it. I mean, a sleeper could be somebody who. Maybe you should be drafted a little bit higher, who isn't in the early rounds.

But I think people more, you know, look at that concept like somebody who's really not on anybody's radar, somebody who's out there, they're really not thinking of. And the reality with that guy's in fantasy is that those guys rarely win you a championship. But what they do is they build you a good team and you have a solid team because all of a sudden you got a starter or somebody viable. Who's gonna help you if something goes wrong with one of the guys you got plugged in, who's your every week guy, you know, one of your studs. So that being said, man, I'm gonna throw a guy out there and he's getting completely ridiculously disrespected and, and I get it. He has no, there's no tape on him. He was a rookie last year.

He didn't get much playing time. Played a couple games at the end of the year, but my sleepers before a backup quarterback. You're gonna get him at All Points. Draft Sam Howell. Sam Howell has weapons guys. No one's looking at him as any kind of viable option in the E S P N top 25 rankings of the quarterbacks.

He's not even listed. That was checked as of about an hour ago. So if that's not being completely disrespected, look at the weapons he has there. Guys, I'm just gonna read off his three receivers really quick, as Terry McCluen, who's just waiting to have a decent quarterback. Curtis Samuel, who could make a guy missing a phone booth and Johan Dotson, who could run past anybody in the N F L. Then you got in the backfield, you got two really good running backs. So if you wanna pound the ball, you bring in Brian Robinson. He's getting over. Got shot in the ass. Last year you got Gibson back there too, and that guy's, he was a receiver in college, so he's one of the best pass, catching, running backs there is.

This team's loaded and people gave him no, no respect at all. There's a reason why they didn't draft a quarterback. There's a reason why they weren't worried about quarterback and free agency. They didn't pay for it. Sure. Maybe everyone's thinking, oh, their thing is they're just gonna tank for Caleb Williams.

Sam Howell my buried treasure:

Bombo: Hey King, for some of our listeners. Who are a little bit lazy and don't want to do the work. Who would you give, who would you say is a good recent comparison to Sam Howell as far as his throwing style and what he can do on the field?

King: I think what he is, and guys think about it this way and look at it, when he first came into the league and what he really did, and he put a decent numbers, but I think he's a bigger, stronger, better arm, baker Mayfield. And don't look at it as a negative, look at it as a positive because Baker's issue was, he wasn't tall enough to look over that line.

He was just missing it by a couple inches and when you can't see something, it's just as bad as missing it completely. That's what's hard with these smaller quarterbacks. So I think Sam Howen and Sam Howell can run too. And the thing too is that people don't realize it too, but bombo in college, he had one bad year, but he lost a really good receiver to the N F L and a running back named Javonte Williams. That was his junior year and he played his senior year without those guys. So you, you drop off a lot and people just gave him no respect, but. I, I really think he's a better version of Baker Mayfield. And when you think of Baker Mayfield, at his best, he was definitely a viable backup fantasy quarterback. know, there were games where he could really produce, and he's throwing long touchdowns. He's putting the ball out there, you know, so I, I think that's the best comparison. When I saw him, you know, and I was even looking at a couple games and just kept rewinding the offensive plays and watching him, he runs around like Baker, but he's bigger.

He's really accurate with the ball and he can throw that 20 to 30 yard pass really tight on a rope. You know, I really haven't seen much of his deep ball 'cause he didn't throw the deep ball much in the preseason. But what I'm hearing in camp is he throws the deep ball really well and Jahan Dotson really likes him. So they really have a good rapport. And if he's got a rapport with that kid, that kid's a really good receiver. I think probably another sleeper that you move up on your board. Johann Dotson. But again, what's the definition of sleeper guys? I took a guy who wasn't even ranked, take him in the last round.

There's your sleeper with a pillow on it.

Bombo: Oh, my buried treasure here on the island is gonna be at the tight end position, and we always spoke about it before. When it comes to tight ends, you have the cheat codes, which are Travis Kel, Mark Andrews, and you pretty much have everybody else. There's, you're, you don't have too much of a gap between like your fifth best tight end in the league and like the 20th best tight end in the league.

You hope for some touchdowns, you hope some person production. When it comes down to it, it's ability, availability, and a little bit of luck. And I think that Sam Laporta from the Detroit Lions, the rookie tight end has all that going for him. A, he doesn't have a Jameson Williams for the first six weeks in Detroit to take targets from him.

It's really the Amman Ross St. Brown Show in Detroit right now, and there's a lot of points that are expected to come outta Detroit. They have a high powered offense, and I think he's being included as being one of those weapons. So it's a smart draft strategy to let every, you know, build up your squad with.

Receivers and backs. And if you have to wait, you can get Sam Laporta free at the end of your draft. Just like Sam Howell. You can. He's going as the tight end 18 right now. And just listen to the pedigree. A, he comes out of Iowa, Iowa, which is tight. End University, Kittle, Noah fan Hawkinson. They had all these guys in a row.

Statistically he's better than all them in college. 6 3 2 45. Good route runner. High point on the ball. He just has all the intangibles, but most of all, he doesn't have anybody to really worry about outside of am Rosse Brown to battle with tar battle for targets. And we all know that Jared Goff loves his tight end.

There was some times where Hawkinson would have blowup games with Jared Goff targeting him. So if he gets the targets and he's able to put, put together, let's say between 600, 800 yards, six touchdowns, that puts you right in that top 10. Top 10 tight end range. And for somebody that you're getting off of the, off of the waiver wire or possibly your last pick, that's Barry Treasure right there.

You're hoping that could take your team over the hump. And you know, I have and honorable mention to Kenneth Gain. Well, from the Eagles, I was going back and forth with them. I just think that. There's a lot of talent in that backfield and eventually it's gonna be a Deandre Swift backfield.

But Kenneth Gain well is somebody that they're not gonna go away from. He knows the playbook. I just think right now I'd probably look at gain, well, as somebody, I would take over Rashad Penney in that backfield. So that was just my honorable mention of Barry Treasure.

King: Well, Rashad Penny's gonna blow out his big toe or something in first on the first drive or something, and fucking won't be able to play the rest of the game to get hurt in practice or fall off the training table and hurt his back or something.

So Babo, you know just thinking about La Porta and everything else, right? That's why they got rid of Hawkinson. They know that he, you know what? They, they can afford to get rid of him. Do you think though, because you, you were right. There were some big games from Hawkinson, but there were games where they just didn't even target him, and now they got the kid from Alabama, Jamir Gibbs in the backfield, which you're probably gonna use in the passing game quite a bit.

Is La Porter gonna get enough to be a viable fantasy guy?

Bombo: I think even if you factor in. Jamir gives blowing up, which I do think he's gonna blow up LaPorte's third in the pecking order. They had Goff had eight touchdowns to tight ends that weren't named Hawkinson last year. Those are gotta go to somebody this year, and he has nobody battling him for that position.

It's pretty much his. And not only that, not only is he getting handed to him, but he is earning it from what we're seeing in practice and what we're hearing from camp is he's catching, he's catching everything that's thrown to him because. He's a safety valve and a big red zone target. So even if he doesn't have a lot of receptions, I anticipate him being the red zone target.

And Detroit gets in the red zone a lot more than people wanna give him credit for.

King: No, that's actually a good point. You know what I mean? And basically, even like you said, he's, he is an option from 20 yards out, you know? 'cause he is good in the passing game, high pointing the ball.

Sweet T: Both. Excellent, excellent, buried treasures. Guys, I'm gonna go ahead and throw one out to you guys right now and I'm going to stick with the tied end just like Bombo did. And I'm gonna go Mike Zeki. Now Mic Ozeki has left Miami. He's no longer battling for balls against the likes of Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, right?

He's over there with the Patriots Now, he doesn't have a lot to contend with, and as a deep sleeper buried treasure type of guy, I really think he could shine in that offense because they, they're very friendly with their tight ends. Now he's listed as number two in the depth chart, I can see him being the number one tied end on, on that depth chart over there in the Patriots. So I'm gonna throw that out there as my, you know, buried treasure. And you never know what's gonna happen over there because we never know what Belichick's gonna do. I hear he's getting rid of all of his backup quarterbacks right now, so who knows what the hell they're gonna do.

Bombo: Yeah, ti on that he is going into a Bill O'Brien offense who likes to use the dual tight ends. He's the, the Gronk Aaron Hernandez master, but I, I don't know if Hunter Henry and Mike Gisi are the Gronk, Aaron Hernandez 2.0, but hey, they gotta throw it to somebody outside of Juju Smith's sister.

King: I think the biggest factor with the gki thing is gonna be the rapport. Can he build a rapport with Mac Jones? Because Hunter Henry already has one and he's comfortable throwing to Hunter Henry. Hunter Henry's been up in the top three in touchdowns the last couple years. So, yeah, I, I don't know. I mean I mean, I, I like gei and he's athletic, tight end dude.

He makes some great catches, you know? And they need that 'cause Yeah, basically they got Juju and do they still got Devonte Parker?

Bombo: Yeah,

but

King: right?

he's like 42, isn't he He's not ready for retirement yet. Or

Bombo: he's like the oldest 27 year old.

King: Yeah.

Sweet T: All right guys, that's gonna go ahead and wrap us up for this one with our buried treasure deep sleepers. All right guys. We'll see what happens as the season plays out, but good picks and we'll see you guys on the next one
